How Capt. John fished it

  • Speed: best bites at 2.0–2.6 mph; 2.5 mph speed over ground on the surface.
  • April Browns: 4.0 spoons on big planer boards, 100–150' back, with a 3/8–1/2 oz bead chain keel weight 5'+ ahead of a plain snap and a 15# leader. Copper, gold, red and orange colors in stained water.
  • Summer Kings: 4.65 spoons on riggers just above the thermocline and as free sliders. A 4.65 White Lightning took a big King 50' down before dawn on July 4, 2020.
  • Fall Steelhead: 4.0 HRP and Bluetail patterns in the top 20' off boards and shallow riggers.
  • Color tip: spoon colors match our flasher and meat rig colors. If a combo color is hot, run it in a spoon too.
