Color Guide

Not sure which color to run? These are general starting points. Conditions change daily, so most captains run a spread of colors and switch to whatever is getting hit. Have a question? Contact us.

By light and depth

  • Bright sun, clear water, shallow: silver, white, pearl and natural baitfish colors (Silver Bullet, White Lightning, Pearl).
  • Deeper water and cloudy days: UV and SUV finishes. UV light reaches deeper than most visible colors, so UV stays visible as daylight fades.
  • Early morning, evening and deep, dark water: Glow and X-Glow. Charge with sunlight or a UV black light before each drop.

By water clarity

  • Clear water: blues, greens and silver (Blue Maui, Emerald Green, Green Ice, Silver Bullet).
  • Stained or murky water: high-contrast and bright colors such as chartreuse, orange, HRP and red (Wild Canary, Shimmering Elf, HRP, Ruby Red).

Building a spread

  • Match your flasher and Meat Rig colors, or use a combo, so the flash and the bait work together.
  • Run different colors on different rods until a pattern shows up, then switch more rods to what's working.
  • Keep a glow option and a UV option in the boat for changing light.
