Rip Teezers Use and Care

Capt. John's switch: once his Rip Teezers™ artificial herring strips went on sale in 2021, John stopped buying meat strips. Rip Teezers™ (Regular, Glow and XG Extended Glow) fit both Magnum and Super Magnum meat heads with zero tuning, need no brine or thawing, and last for seasons. See Rip Teezers Use and Care.
Rigging tips
- Pierce the tough strip with something metal, like a pin or paper clip.
- Let the hook hang freely near the end of the strip. Don't peg it into the bait.
- Plastic toothpicks and pins work better than wood.
- Push the strip all the way into the meat head, Magnum or Super Magnum, for balance.
- Strips fit other brands of heads too, snugly.
Fishing tips
- Speed: from a slow 1.5–1.8 to over 2 mph. 2.2 mph seems to be the sweet spot.
- Scent: rub on a few drops of Re-Scent for fussy fish.
- Glow: recharge with a UV flashlight during low light to give fish a better target.
- Colors: matching strip and head colors is preferred but not required. "XG Green Glow and XG King Kryptonite are like salt and pepper. These 2 selections go with everything!"
Don'ts
- Don't soak the strip completely in herring oil or Re-Scent.
- Don't pierce the rear of the strip with the hook to make a bend. It isn't needed.
- Don't leave strips in the sun for long periods.
- Don't cut the toothpick short in the head. You'll need to pull it out eventually.
Storage
Store strips in their original bag when you can. For winter, a zip-top bag with a few drops of Re-Scent works; squeeze out all the air so it's almost vacuum sealed. Done right, strips should last many seasons.
